Tell us
what's happened to you since high school
(Feel free to tell us THE WHOLE STORY):
I have lived in Lancaster, California for the past twenty
years and am still loving my job teaching classes in General Biology and
Molecular Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Antelope Valley College. I have a
whopping six children, three through my ex-wife Suzanne (Jordan is finishing
at UC Santa Cruz, and Jared and Dylan are in High School) and three more
small children through a girlfriend named Esther (Christopher is 5, Michael
is 4, and Sarah is coming up on 2). I should probably win some sort of a
prize at the Reunion for having children with the widest spread in age, from
25 to less than 2. I am enjoying life a great deal, spending time with my
kids, reading lots of books, working out, hiking, occasionally surfing with
my boys, playing the guitar, and gardening. I like people to know that about
twenty years ago I renounced Christianity as a result of intensive
historical criticism of the Judeo-Christian scriptures, which brought me to
the conclusion that all the supernatural stuff in the Bible is clearly
documental creative fiction. Now I believe that in order to be happy all you
have to do is display personal integrity, keep your promises, enjoy nature,
and love people. Intellectually I am most interested in two topics: How
spontaneous changes to DNA cause embryos to develop differently and lead to
new forms of organisms in evolution, and how the books of the Hebrew Bible
and Christian New Testament came to be written by some forty different
authors over about a thousand year period. I occasionally give extensive
public lectures on those topics at the college, and am working on two books
on those subjects which I am determined to publish. I am greatly looking
forward to the 40 year reunion and can't wait to see everybody again!
