Tell us what's
happened to you since high school
(Feel free to tell us THE WHOLE STORY):
I graduated from Azusa Pacific College (now University) in 1976.
I taught second grade locally and then in San Diego while getting my M.A. in
Reading from San Diego State University. I loved living in San Diego for about
four years.
Then I received an opportunity to study abroad through Rotary International. I
became, oddly enough, a Graduate Fellow (?). So for a year I studied Art
Education in Birmingham, England. Needless to say, I fell in love with England
and am an official anglophile. By the way, while I was there Rex proposed to me
and we returned engaged. About a year after returning home we were married in
Pomona and then moved to Sacramento where I taught as a reading specialist in
San Juan Unified while my husband went to law school.
In 1984 we moved to Fresno, where I continued teaching reading until our
children were born. I went back to work part-time then had the privilege of
caring for my mom in her last few years of life, so I took a five year break
from teaching. I got used to the part time job, full- time mom and wife thing
so that's what I'm still doing. I have a great teaching assignment where I can
help young readers develop those skills before they fail. At the same time I
love being mom to two great baseball-loving sons, Elliott is a 6'2" freshman and
Graham is a fun-loving sixth grader. They are a huge blessing and a delight to
us. We, also, have a black lab named Shadow.
It's hard to believe that we have lived in Fresno for 18 years, but here we are.
Yosemite is very close. (I do miss the beach.)
Some of you might remember that I made a decision in high school to give my life
to Jesus Christ. That has been the best thing I have ever done. He has made all
of the difference in my life. I have known His love, strength and guidance all
of these years. He has been faithful even when I have not. "Let us hold
unswervingly to the hope that we profess, for He who promised is faithful." Heb.
10:23.
